How to Make Homemade Lebanese Kanafa

Ingredients

  • You will need the following ingredients to make the syrup
    • One cup of granulated sugar
    • ¾ cup of water
    • One or two lemon slices
    • One tablespoon of rose water
  • You will need the following ingredients to make the Kanafa
    • A half or 16-ounce phyllo dough
    • A half cup of whole-milk cheese
    • Two cups of mozzarella cheese
    • ¼ cup of granulated sugar
    • One stick of melted butter

Instructions

  1. Start the cooking process by preheating the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit
  2. Combine water, sugar, and lemon slices in a saucepan on a medium heat
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil and reduce the heat to simmer
  4. The purpose is to dissolve the sugar
  5. So, heat it for at least five to seven minutes
  6. Remove from the heat and add rose water
  7. Set aside to cool
  8. Chop the shredded phyllo dough into tiny pieces using a food processor
  9. Now transfer the dough into a large bowl
  10. Pour the butter and mix it with the dough
  11. Use another bowl to mix the mozzarella, ricotta, and sugar
  12. Spread the phyllo dough into the pan and press into the edges and bottom
  13. Now spread the cheese mixture but leave the edges empty
  14. Bake in the preheated oven until you make the cheese slightly golden
  15. Remove the Kanafa from the oven and place a baking sheet or large platter over the baking dish
  16. Pour the syrup over the dish and cut it into pieces
  17. Serve the Lebanese Kanafa hot
